Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826 – 1889), was a major Russian writer and satirist of the 19th century. He spent most of his life working as a civil servant in various capacities.
This is a funny story about two government officials and a Muzhik (i.e. a Russian peasant). It highlights the value of imbibing useful skills, as well as character traits of institutionalized ones who have lost those skills; rather lost the habit of working.
