19. Hide Your Teeth and Turn Your Head
At the zoo, in the section where aquatic animals lived, there was a walrus. He was huge and very heavy, with two enormous tusks sticking out from his mouth.
The walrus usually spent his time swimming in the water or resting on the shore. But one day, he decided to visit his friends—the wolf, panda, elephant, tiger, lion, bear, and gorilla—who sometimes came to see him. He also really wanted to drink some fresh milk from the cow in the evening.
As soon as the idea came to his mind, he set out on his adventure. But he had forgotten one important detail—he didn’t have legs! He couldn’t run, and he could barely move on land. Still, with great determination, he dragged himself out of his enclosure and slowly slid along the zoo’s pathways, greeting the animals one by one.
By the time evening came, he had finally reached the wolf. The wolf was happy to see such a rare guest and gladly shared some carrots with him.
However, the walrus hadn’t considered one big problem—crawling on land took an enormous amount of energy.
He was so excited to leave his aquatic home and see his friends that he didn’t realize he was exhausting himself. The further he went, the more tired he became. Soon, he had to stop and rest every few meters. His body was not made for crawling, and his skin was getting scraped and sore.
By the time he reached the elephant on his way back, he was completely drained. His entire body ached, and he was barely conscious from exhaustion.
The animals were thrilled by the walrus’s visit. The news spread quickly across the zoo. Whoever could—ran, flew, or crawled over to greet him. But as bedtime approached, everyone had to return to their enclosures—except the walrus, who was too weak to move.
The animals couldn’t leave their friend like this. They had to help him get back to his enclosure.
"I’ll pull him," the elephant suggested.
"And we’ll push him from behind," said the lion, tiger, and bear.
But no one realized just how heavy the walrus was!
"Okay, let’s do this!" the wolf commanded. "On the count of three. One, two, three—PUSH!"
"Aaaah!" the elephant suddenly screamed in pain.
The walrus, nudged forward by the lion, tiger, and bear, accidentally stabbed the elephant’s leg with his giant tusk!
"Pause! We need to take care of the elephant’s leg!" the wolf ordered.
After a quick patch-up, they got ready to push again.
"Okay, everyone ready? On three. One, two, three—PUSH!"
"AAAAHHH!" The walrus shrieked this time.
In all the chaos, the bear had accidentally bitten the walrus on the rear!
"Stop! Now we need to take care of the walrus!" the wolf sighed.
After more first aid, they tried again.
"This time, no teeth!" the wolf reminded. "And walrus, turn your head to the side! Ready? One, two, three—PUSH!"
The walrus inched forward a few more meters, but every movement hurt more and more. His belly was scraped raw from dragging himself across the ground.
The animals didn’t give up. They worked together all night long, pushing, pulling, and cheering each other on.
Finally—just as the first rays of the morning sun appeared in the sky—they managed to slide the walrus back into his enclosure.
"Success!" the wolf cheered.
"Quick! The zoo is opening!" the wolf shouted. "Everyone back to your enclosures before the humans see us!"
